The 2022s are all a little riper, and the 2022 La Mujer Cañón has 15% alcohol (according to the label) and gives a sensation of riper fruit. Aromatically, it's more Mediterranean, with notes of cherries and kirsch. It's not as airy as the 2021 and has a wider palate and slightly dustier tannins with a faint volatile touch. 1,988 bottles were filled in February 2024.

Description

La Mujer Cañón, a D.O. Vinos de Madrid wine, is a pure expression of the Garnacha variety. This single varietal stands out for its careful winemaking and meticulous ageing, reflecting the quality and character of the region.

Winemaking

Made for Uvas Felices, this wine comes from the Peña Lancharrasa vineyard, located at an altitude of 900 metres in Cadalso de los Vidrios. The Garnacha grapes, planted in 1934, grow in poor, weathered granitic soil with little organic content, which contributes to the wine's intensity and complexity. The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring the selection of the best grapes.
Vinification is carried out with whole grapes and 100% stems, using indigenous yeasts and spontaneous fermentation in gentle, controlled conditions. This process brings out the purity and varietal expression of the Garnacha. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 6 months in the bottle before release.

Taste

La Mujer Cañón is characterised by its elegance and volume. It has a delicate, bright cherry colour with orange hues. The nose is complex, highlighting red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, spices such as vanilla, cloves, white pepper, and a background of dried flowers and subtle smoky notes.
On the palate, the wine is fluid, with a fine, airy texture that envelops the palate. Notes of pomegranate, citrus peel, and refreshing menthol touches are perceived, accompanied by aromas of green tea leaves and incense. This aromatic and gustatory profile makes it an ideal accompaniment to dishes such as stewed poultry, duck breast with red fruit sauce, Iberian feather and cured goat or sheep cheeses.
