The 2020 Terra Montosa offers an intense and elegant, quiet and balanced, deep and complex bouquet with ripe (Rüdesheim) Riesling and weathered slate and lovely spicy aromas. Elegant and refined on the palate, this is a full-bodied, complex and sustainable dry Riesling with a very long, saline and multilayered finish. Quite spectacular at this price point (25 euros ex-cellar) yet still young. 11.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022.

Description
Georg Breuer Terra Montosa wine, since the 1990 vintage, has been the result of a rigorous selection of Grand Cru, combining the second best sites from single plot vineyards. Its name, "Terra Montosa", comes from Latin and means "steep land", a term that dates back to a certificate from 1074 that records the original history of viticulture on the slopes of Rüdesheim.
Winemaking
Terra Montosa comes from the second quality plots of the Cru-classified vineyard sites in Rüdesheim, Rauenthal and Lorch. Here, deep soils of phyllite, clay and quartz slate predominate. The wine is the fruit of the efforts of the family vineyard run by Bernhard Breuer, who with a strict quality philosophy transformed the 40 hectares into one of the Rheingau's leading estates. Today, his daughter Theresa Breuer runs the estate, supported by vineyard manager Hermann Schmoranz and cellar master Markus Lundén.
Taste
Terra Montosa presents with a bright pale yellow colour. Its seductive aromas evoke yellow fruits, hay, wet stone and sweet spice. On the palate, there is impressive complexity accompanied by hints of tannin and strong acidity. It is a wine that strikes a balance between concentration and lightness, with 11.5% alcohol, 5.6 g/l of residual sugar and a total acidity of 9.0g/l.
