Wines that surprised us in 2020

Wine has been a great companion during this year and, before it comes to an end, we would like to offer you a selection of our experts with the white, red and rosé wines that most dazzled us in 2020.

The crianza red wine Pícaro del Águila 2018 from the Dominio del Águila winery in Castilla y León in Ribera del Duero, is made from a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Bobal.

After a spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts with whole clusters in oak barrels, it is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, and then bottled without clarification or filtering.

Fruity and juicy, with a 14.0% alcohol content, it is ideal to accompany red meat in a business lunch.

The red wine reserve Viña Tondonia Reserva 2007 from the López de Heredia winery Viña Tondonia in La Rioja, is made from Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano.

With 96 Parker Points and 93 Peñin Points, with 13% alcohol and aged for 6 years in French oak barrels, it is a mature and elegant wine, ideal for an important dinner or a gift. As for its ideal pairing, Iberian sausages and rice dishes with meat stand out.

The Marko Gure Arbasoak 2019 aged white wine from the Oxer Boastegieta winery in the Basque Country has 94 Parker Points and 93 Peñín Points.

It is deep and mineral, ideal for pairing with white fish. It is a perfect wine to give as a gift. It has a 13% alcohol content and is made from Petit Manning, Petit Courbu, Gros Courbu.

In its elaboration, it goes through a 50% spontaneous fermentation in steel tanks, while the other 50% is fermented in used French oak barrels of 500 litres. Finally, it is aged for 8 months in used 500-litre French oak barrels, and then bottled without being filtered.

4. The Rapolao 2018

The red wine El Rapolao 2018 from Bodegas y Viñedos Raúl Pérez de Castilla y León has the quality seal of +95 Parker Points.

It is an exclusive, deep and complex wine, ideal to give as a gift or to entertain someone special. Its perfect combination is red meats, stews and cooked dishes.

Made from Mencia, Garnacha and Souson, it has 13.5% alcohol and undergoes fermentation with stems in 5,000 litre casks. It is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

 

5. Naranjuez Brutal Rosado 2019

The natural young rosé wine Naranjuez Brutal Rosado 2019 from the Naranjuez winery, is made from a blend of Garnacha, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo.

Fruity and vibrant, with 13% alcohol, it is ideal to enjoy with smoked foods or sushi in a romantic dinner.
