What does it mean for a white wine to be aromatic and fragrant?

Many of us have heard of white wines that are characterized by being aromatic and fragrant. But what exactly do we mean by this? Here we explain what is meant by this characterization of wines, so you can feel like a real sommelier.

What is an aromatic and fragrant wine like?

Aromatic and fragrant whites are wines that, due to the character of the variety, are highly perfumed, enveloping, round in the mouth and with a certain texture, although they are not sweet.

They are wines with a heady aroma of tropical fruits, orange citrus and white stone fruit, and with a glyceric and dense mouth reminiscent of a garden of flowers and yellow fruits.

What varieties can offer us this type of wines?

Moscatel, Verdejo, Albariño, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Viognier and Chenin Blanc are highly aromatic varieties. In the winery, with the use of enzymes and commercial yeasts, these can be expressed even more intensely.

In general, they avoid winemaking with the use of wood if the aim is to preserve the perfumed character of the variety.

On what occasions can aromatic and fragrant wines be ideal?

Aromatic and fragrant wines are usually ideal to drink with a spring aperitif, at a temperature between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius.

They are wines that can be perfectly combined with spicy Asian food, with soft cheeses, with dry and brothy seafood rice dishes, with oily white and blue fish, poultry and foie gras.
