Natural wines you should try this year

More and more wine lovers are choosing natural wines, wines with minimal intervention, without sulphites or chemical additives of any kind, both in the vineyard and in the winery.

At the beginning of the year, we usually make a sort of mental list of goals to achieve or places and things we would like to visit or try during the year. Here are some suggestions of natural wines to add to your “wish list” for 2022.

1. Muster Opok 2018

The Muster Opok 2018 Crianza white wine is a bottling from Austrian Maria Stepp Muster. It is a deep, mineral wine made from a blend of Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and Chardonnay, with only 10% alcohol content and aged for 18 months in barrels. Bottled unfiltered, unclarified and without added sulphur dioxide.

2. Marnes Blanches Chardonnay Les Molates 2020

The aged white wine Marnes Blanches Chardonnay Les Molates 2020 is a 100% Chardonnay from Domaine des Marnes Blanches, from the French Jura region, with 12% alcohol and aged for 18 months in used oak barrels, with no added sulphites.

3. Clos des Vignes du Maynes Mâcon Rouge Sélection Massale 2018

If crianza reds are your thing, this Clos des Vignes du Maynes Mâcon Rouge Sélection Massale 2018 is ideal for you. Deep, complex, with 12.5% alcohol, this Burgundy Pinot Noir with 12 months of ageing in barrels and an extra 6 months in bottle will surprise you.

4. Laboratorio Rupestre Chiquillo 2018

Another option for lovers of crianza red wines is Laboratorio Rupestre Chiquillo 2018 by Erik Rosdahl. This is a wine from Murcia (Spain), made from 100% Bobal, with 14.5% alcohol. Aged for 3 months in amphorae and one year in used French oak barrels, it is a fruity and juicy wine that shows promise.
