18 February: International Day of Drinking Wine and Exploring New Wine Pairings | 4 Proposals

Today is the International Day of Drinking Wine and Exploring New Pairings and, to celebrate it, we want to make you some proposals with exotic and different pairings to try on this day. For a good wine lover, nothing better than exploring new combinations… here are some options:

1. Tacos and Riesling, yes sir!

If Mexican food is your thing, try pairing tacos al pastor with a good German Riesling, like the 88 Parker Points non-vintage white wine Battenfeld Spanier Hohen – Sülzen Riesling Trocken 2016. This 100% Riesling is aromatic and fragrant, with a 12.5% alcohol content.

2. Wild boar cheek and a good reserve red wine

An impressive dish such as wild boar cheeks or deer cheeks deserves to go hand in hand with a deep and complex red wine, such as Principiano Ferdinando Barolo Serralunga 2015. This is a 100% Nebbiolo, made in the Italian region of Piedmont, aged for two years in oak.

3. White fish with bubbles

Our third suggestion is a grilled Birrey or other white fish with a sparkling wine such as Jacques Lassaigne Les Vignes de Montgueux Extra Brut, with 92 Parker Points. It is a creamy and mature 100% Chardonnay, with 12% alcohol and two years of ageing in bottle before disgorging by hand without dosage.

4. Clams and white wine

Our last pairing suggestion is clams with an aged white wine, such as Sálvora 2020, a 100% Albariño from Rías Baixas (Galicia), light and crisp.
