A great choice for a toast on this day is the French champagne Bruno Paillard Première Cuvée Extra Brut Rosé from the Bruno Paillard winery. Light and vibrant, it is a sparkling wine with 12% alcohol content, made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, aged for 36 months in bottle before disgorgement.
2. Dominique Piron Morgon Côte du Py 2018
Another great alternative to bring out the passions is the fruity and juicy Dominique Piron Morgon Côte du Py 2018, from the Dominique Piron winery in the Burgundy region.
Made from 100% Gamay, it has 13.5% alcohol content. It undergoes a semi-carbonic maceration in cement vats before being placed in new oak barrels and concrete tanks for 10 months of ageing.
3. Jerôme Balmet Barbe Rousse 2018
If natural wines are your thing, you can treat that special someone with the young red wine Jerôme Balmet Barbe Rousse 2018 from the Jerôme Balmet winery, also from Burgundy. 100% Gamay, 12% alcohol and spontaneous carbonic maceration in ceramic eggs. It is a fragrant and light wine, with no added sulphur, no fining and no filtering. If simple and authentic love is your thing, this wine could be the one.
4. Ausàs Interpretation 2017
If you prefer something more exclusive, perhaps the best option is Ausàs Interpretación 2017 by the Spanish winery Ausàs Bodegas y Viñedos. With 94+ Parker Points and 95 Peñín Points, this deep and complex wine has 16 months of ageing in French oak barrels and 15% alcohol. It is made from Ribera del Duero’s star variety, Tempranillo.
5. Nar y Tornar Roig Txaranga 2018
If you want a powerful wine, but keep in line with natural wines, the red wine Nar y Tornar Roig Txaranga 2018 by the Catalan winery Vinya Ferrer is another great option. Made from 100% Grenache, with 14.6% alcohol and a spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no added sulphites, no fining and no filtering.
