Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Viña Escondida felt very young and even if it's drinkable, my experience is, that this is a Garnacha from Gredos for the long haul and it will improve tremendously in the bottle. The initial 2007 is gobsmacking now. This wine matured in a 2,000-liter French oak foudre, which is what the vineyard delivers. The vines are on a slope with decomposed granite soils and this comes from the upper part, where it's shallower and tends to produce stonier, more austere wines. It manages to keep its poise and elegance, even in a warm and extremely dry vintage like 2015, when they had to harvest quite early. What I love about this wine is the strict sensation on the palate, with grainy tannins and a dry finish. A triumph over the conditions of the year. There were 2,100 bottles produced and bottled 18 months after the harvest.
