Skin soaking for 3 weeks with 70% of the grapes de-stemmed. Free-run alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts and ageing for 24 months in 3,000 litre old oak vats. Bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added sulphites.
Description
Biodynamic farming in the steep hills of the Steiermark has given rise to the wine Werlitsch Freude (German for joy). This wine is made of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Chardonnay from vines grown on calcareous marl soils.
Winemaking
After a manual harvest, where only those bunches with the best ripeness and health are selected, 70% of the harvest is destemmed and then fermented in open oak vats with the skins for 3 weeks. The wine is then pressed and racked into 3,000 litre vats where it ages on its fine lees for the next two years.
Taste
Werlitsch Freude is a wine that surprises, challenges and enriches. It is a highly concentrated Orange Wine, with a distinctive golden colour. At first, it may present a reductive character on the nose, but over time it reveals complex and rich aromas. Notes of white flowers, honey, peaches, citrus, apples, candied lemon and minerals can be perceived. On the palate, it stands out for its pronounced tannins and pronounced acidity. Although it is delicious on its own, its flavour is further enhanced when accompanied by food.
