Description
Rofe red wine is a personal project of winemaker Carmelo Peña, who teamed up with another friend to showcase the qualities of Lanzarote's volcanic terroir, through sustainable techniques and with minimal intervention, resulting in wines with Canarian authenticity.
This wine is made from the indigenous Listan Negro grape variety from traditional vineyards in La Geria, characterised by a black landscape due to the pits dug in the volcanic ash, known locally as Rofe.
Elaboration
In the winemaking process, the digging of the holes in the volcanic ash is of utmost importance, as it helps to keep the vines protected from the strong winds of the Sahara and in turn, covers the soil and prevents water from evaporating in the high temperatures.
The vineyards are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way and the grapes are harvested earlier than usual and by hand.
At Puro Rofe, the grapes are vinified by plot. To begin with, the grapes are crushed in a traditional press and then macerated as follows: one part in whole bunches in amphorae, another part in barrels and the other two parts in stainless steel. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, spontaneously, without fining or filtering.
Taste
The Puro Rofe red wine has a fruity and fresh taste, with notes of red and black fruits, with slightly sweet and spicy nuances.

The Puro Rofe red wine is made against all odds in the terroir of La Geria with an authentic island character, which invites you to savour its different nuances, ideal to accompany rice dishes, smoked or red meats.
