Description

Ridge East Bench Zinfandel is a pure and authentic expression of the Zinfandel variety, as it is composed entirely of this grape, being one of the few zinfandels from Ridge Vineyards. It comes from the East Bench vineyard, which sits in an elevated position overlooking the Dry Creek Valley from the east. Ridge Vineyards has been making East Bench as a single vineyard since 2006.

Winemaking

All plots in the vineyard were harvested in the first week of September. This wine shows abundant fruit typical of the variety and the depth of flavour representative of the Dry Creek Valley. It is expected to be at its best for the next ten years.
Ridge East Bench Zinfandel is the result of a meticulous winemaking process that begins with hand-harvesting organic, estate-grown grapes. Once harvested, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation with natural bacteria present. This wine has been aged in American oak barrels for 12 months. The composition of these barrels varies: 10% are new, 20% are one year old, another 20% are two years old, 25% are four years old and the remaining 25% are five years old.
Finally, before bottling, the wine is filtered. The entire process is carried out according to a philosophy of minimal intervention, reflecting Ridge's commitment to authenticity and pure expression of terroir.

Taste

Ridge East Bench Zinfandel offers fresh notes of black cherry, fig and vanilla on the nose, complemented by hints of mint. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, presenting rich raspberry and well-coated tannins. It is beautifully balanced and culminates in a juicy finish.
