Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The red 2022 Benje is floral, expressive, clean and elegant, reflecting a very good year in the region, with notes of rose petals and talcum powder, a fine texture and very elegant tannins. This has to be the most elegant Benje to date. 28,000 bottles. It was bottled in July 2023.

Features

Description

The Benjé is a red wine that denotes in its taste a great freshness, added with the particularity of red fruits, flowers and subtle aromas of herbs. It is an ideal wine for those of us who like something different, as it is classified as a wine with its own personality.
The red Benjé is made entirely from Listan Prieto and Tintilla grapes, from old vines (between 70 and 105 years old), by Bodega Envínate in Santiago del Teide, Tenerife, at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level.

Elaboration

For the production of this wine, the grapes are harvested by hand and wooden crates are used to care for and guarantee the quality of the fruit. The juice is then taken to a process of alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts for a period of 8 months in concrete, and then undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, which guarantee the naturalness of the process.
Finally, it is bottled unfiltered, which guarantees its characteristic texture and long finish when tasted. It has an alcohol content of 12.5%.

Taste

Envínate Benjé is a red wine that can be classified as fresh and fluid, but also complex. It stands out for its direct, fruity flavour, with a certain volume and balanced acidity. On the other hand, its aroma is reminiscent of a variety of scents over a mineral background.

An Atlantic wine with volcanic soil.

An Atlantic wine characterised by its aroma and flavour of red and black fruits with floral touches, spicy spices and mineral notes that denote the volcanic origin of the soils where the vineyards are located. It has a couple of indigenous varieties, Listan Prieto and Tintilla. Its tannins are not very marked, which provides structure and texture. It is ideal with seafood, fish, salads, smoked and roasted foods.
