Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The Mediterranean red 2020 La Garnacha de Mustiguillo was produced with grapes from head-pruned and dry-farmed vines planted in the 1980s on limestone soils at 800 meters in altitude on their Finca Terrerazo property. It fermented with 20% to 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in an 8,000-liter oak vat and matured in 5,000-liter oak vats (no more barrels) for eight months. There's good ripeness, varietal but with more fruit and less flowers. The palate is round and juicy, with some dusty tannins and a dry finish. It should be better with some more time in bottle. 13,800 bottles were filled in November 2021.

Features

Description

Mustiguillo Garnacha is a single varietal wine, as it is made from a single type of grape, which in this case is Garnacha. However, it is a particular Garnacha that has been selected from an exclusive cultivation, resulting in a wine with a Mediterranean style flavour.
This wine is defined as balanced, elegant and with personality, highlighting its lightness in flavour and the freshness of its floral tones.
The vineyards where the grapes for the production of this wine are grown are located at an altitude of 800 metres, with limestone soils, and applying ecological techniques for their cultivation and maintenance.

Winemaking

To make this wine, the grapes are harvested 100% by hand, ensuring that the fruit is at its optimum ripeness, and then harvested in boxes of a maximum of 15 kg.
The maceration process continues, which is carried out in the same boxes as the harvest, but at low temperatures. The bunches are then sorted and destemmed and fermented in oak vats for 10 to 13 days.
The wine undergoes a second post-fermentation maceration for a period of 8 to 10 days, after which the skins are devatted. It is then aged for 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels and finally bottled for distribution.

Taste

The taste of La Garnacha de Mustiguillo wine leaves a juicy sensation on the palate with wild tones, balanced acidity and subtle hints of spices. On the palate, the intensity is noticeable until a dry and elegant finish.

A wine with a peculiar freshness

Mustiguillo's Garnacha wine stands out from others from this winery for its peculiar freshness, where you can delight yourself with the taste of ripe wild fruits and floral tones. It is a perfect companion for meals based on chickpea stews, fatty fish and cured cheeses.
