Features

Description

Gut Oggau Bertholdi comes from the winery's oldest vines, made in limited quantities, this wine promises impressive structure and exceptional ageing potential. It is made from the Blaufränkisch grape variety, sourced from a plot over 60 years old on limestone and gravel soils. This plot is cultivated biodynamically by Steffi and Eddi, who pay special attention to every detail of the winemaking process.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed, then fermented spontaneously in large old oak vats. Afterwards, the skins are carefully pressed in a vertical press that is over 200 years old. The wine is aged for 2 years in 500-litre oak barrels and bottled without fining, filtering or sulphur additives.

Taste

Gut Oggau Bertholdi is a wine with an unmistakable personality. It is described as the "nestor" of the Gut family, reflecting the strength and wisdom of a beloved grandfather, full of energy and joie de vivre. In terms of its flavour profile, it stands out for having an extremely fruity touch. Notes of preserved red berries are evident, and as it develops on the palate, fresh nuances, such as strawberry mint, are perceived. Its present acidity gives it additional character, making the wine resonate on the palate for a long time. It is a complex wine in terms of food pairing, but could ideally be paired with dishes such as sweet and sour pork.
