Description
Alfredo Maestro Viña Almate Garnacha is a unique expression of Alfredo Maestro's natural, self-taught viticulture. Sourced from century-old vineyards in and around Peñafiel, this wine is characterised by its minimal interventionism, reflecting the purity and essence of the Garnacha grape, the only variety used in its composition. These vineyards, located at an average altitude of 900 metres, are worked without chemical products, respecting nature and the identity of the terroir.
Winemaking
The vinification of Alfredo Maestro Viña Almate Garnacha begins with fermentation in stainless steel tanks, using indigenous yeasts from the vineyard. The grapes, without destemming, undergo a 25-day maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. This process stands out for its respect for the natural character of the grape, avoiding interventions that alter its original profile.
Ageing for 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels adds complexity and depth to the wine, without overshadowing its fruity character. The wine is not racked until bottling, which guarantees optimum clarity and natural stabilisation.
Taste
Alfredo Maestro Viña Almate Garnacha has a dark ruby colour with purple tinges, indicative of its concentration and richness. On the nose, intense notes of red fruits such as cherries and morello cherries, complemented by hints of wild herbs and spices. Toasty notes from the French oak ageing add an extra layer of complexity.
On the palate, this wine stands out for its freshness and volume, offering good length and a balsamic finish. The combination of fruity, spicy and toasted flavours, together with a balanced acidity, make this wine a unique and memorable taste experience. Its natural and environmentally friendly production makes it an outstanding exponent of quality wines with an ecological conscience.
