Description

Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage is a red wine from the prestigious Crozes-Hermitage region. This region, located between the Isère and Rhône rivers, is known for its vineyards on flat, rocky terrain, especially in the areas of Les Chassis and Les Sept Chemins. The soil in this area, formed by alluvial deposits of sand, gravel, rocks and stones, although flat, has an excellent drainage capacity.

Elaboration

All the grapes are hand-picked from low-yielding, rigorously pruned vines. It is interesting to note that the Crozes-Hermitage red grapes are not destemmed, i.e. 100% whole bunch. These grapes are placed in lined concrete tanks and cooled to 18°C for a pre-fermentative maceration of 2 to 5 days. Once fermentation with indigenous yeasts begins, temperatures rise to 30°C, and maceration lasts 15 to 21 days. The wine is aged for one year, 80% in one to three year old oak barrels and the remaining 20% in tank. Before bottling, the wine is lightly filtered, but not clarified.

Taste

Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage is light, with tannins reminiscent of paper, but with a lovely cherry flavour. It shows a robust flavour, with a velvety richness and darker fruit flavours.
