Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The red 2015 Villa de San Lorenzo, sourced from a warm vintage with good balance and moderate acidity, is a fruit-driven Mencía sourced from different vineyards on slate and quartz soils. It fermented in cement vats with natural yeasts. Thirty percent of the volume aged in third-use French oak barrels and the rest was kept in concrete. The nose mixes flowers and berries with a spicy twist, developing notes of licorice and some spices. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and moderate acidity, dry, with an earthy sensation that provides some austerity. Very good value and a worthy example of red Bierzo from the slate soils. 9,000 bottles were filled in September 2016.
Between 16ºC and 18ºC
Aged for 12 months in concrete tanks and French oak barrels.
