Akilia Chano Villar 2012
£12.92 (Inc. VAT bot. 75 cl.) / Spain
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The entry-level red 2012 Chano Villar sees no oak whatsoever and is pure Mencía from an old vineyard on clay and slate soils at some 650 meters altitude which fermented with indigenous yeasts in cement vats where the wine matured for eight months in contact with the lees. It has the reductive character of young Mencía that benefits from some air (energetic decanting is adequate here) to start revealing notes of flowers and wild berries, turning quite clean after a while. The palate feels agile, with fine tannins and a soft texture that makes it easy to drink. 6,000 bottles.
