Description
Viña Almate La Asperilla is an exceptional wine that reflects the richness and diversity of the vineyards of Peñafiel, in the Ribera del Duero. This crianza red wine comes from the La Asperilla estate, planted in 1932 and located at an altitude of 750 metres. La Asperilla is distinguished by its focus on natural and logical viticulture, avoiding the use of chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, and without artificial irrigation, even in times of water stress. This respect for the natural environment allows the grapes to clearly express the terroir they come from and the particularities of each vintage.
Winemaking
Viña Almate La Asperilla is a blend of 80% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 20% of other varieties, including Albillo, Moscatel and Palomino. The grapes are harvested by hand in the first week of October, and the grapes are not completely destemmed. It is vinified in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, without corrections or additional additions. Maceration lasts 15 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. The wine then rests for 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels, without racking until bottling to maintain its purity and natural stability.
Taste
Viña Almate La Asperilla is characterised by a full body and a complexity of flavours that include notes of cherry, raspberry, violet, tomato and spice. It has medium-high intensity tannins and medium acidity, giving it a balanced and attractive profile. Its variety of nuances makes it ideal to accompany spicy Indian food, soups, stews, and traditional dishes such as sirloin steak.
