Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Barolo opens to a lean appearance with a very vibrant Nebbiolo color that shines with dark ruby highlights. There is dried cherry and candied fruit aromas on the bouquet. Those fruit layers cede to light spice, lilac and campfire ash. The beauty in this wine is the extreme balance achieved in this classic vintage. It delivers on all levels; intensity, length and joy. The fruit represents a blend of four MGS sites; Bricco Chiesa and Capalot in La Morra, Fiasco in Castiglione Falletto and Monvigliero in Verduno. Production is an ample 32,000 bottles.

Description
Oddero Barolo is a wine that represents the essence and tradition of the Italian wine region. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, this wine comes from vineyards located in La Morra, specifically in Santa Maria Bricco Chiesa and other plots. These vineyards are located at altitudes varying between 200 and 250 metres above sea level, with south-east and south-west exposures, respectively. The planting density is 4,000 vines per hectare, and the age of the vines is heterogeneous, with some parts being up to 60 years old.
This vineyard is the historic core of the Oddero company's production. Located at the foot of the church of Santa Maria della Neve, it has a predominantly clayey soil, enriched with sand and calcium carbonate. It is from this vineyard that Oddero's prestigious Barolo DOCG is produced.
Winemaking
Vinification is carried out with a rigorous manual selection of the grapes in the vineyard. Fermentation and maceration are carried out in stainless steel for 20 days at a controlled temperature of 28-29°C. This process is carried out separately for the three vineyards, as is the malolactic fermentation. The Barolo is aged separately in Austrian and Slovenian oak barrels, with capacities varying between 40-60 and 75 hectolitres, for a period of 30 months. The wine is then blended in spring, followed by bottling in late summer and further bottle ageing for six months before release.
Taste
Oddero Barolo is characterised by a bright garnet red colour that acquires warmer reflections over time. Its aroma is unmistakable, very pleasant, intense and ethereal, with a remarkable persistence. Spicy notes can be perceived, with hints of truffle, liquorice and wilted flowers. On the palate, it has a dry flavour, with important and robust tannins that give it body and structure.
