Description
Occhipinti Vino di Contrada Pettineo is an authentic expression of the terroir of Vittoria, Sicily. This region is known for its vineyards that benefit from the interplay between sand and limestone, resulting in wines with a combination of fruity freshness and silkiness on the one hand, and great acidity and energy on the other. During vinification, meticulous care is taken to preserve these elements, considering each vineyard individually.
Winemaking
Contrada Pettineo is a historic contrada, a term used to refer to a small district in the countryside. It is located beyond the ridge of Serra San Bartolo and has historically produced very elegant wines. This is due to a deep layer of marine sand (50-60 cm) with little presence of limestone rocks on the surface. The vines of Chiusa di Pettineo are almost 60 years old. Originally planted in a goblet pruning system, the previous owner transformed them to a trellis system, with the vines climbing between the trellises to monumental heights. The wines from Pettineo tend to be characterised by fruit with a silkier tannin, but have a fairly lively acidity. From this contrada 2700 bottles are produced.
Taste
Occhipinti Vino di Contrada Pettineo is characterised by elegance and delicacy both on the palate and on the nose. The predominant notes are strawberry, strawberry jam, basil and McDonald's strawberry milkshake. Hints of mushroom, cherry, earth and red flowers are also perceptible. On the palate, it has amazing acidity, fine, light tannins and a long finish reminiscent of Pinot Noir.
