Description
Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Kabinett is a semi-dry white wine that comes from the renowned winery of Maximin Grünhaus. This wine belongs to the Mosel Saar Ruwer wine region and is a pure expression of the Riesling grape variety, as it is 100% Riesling.
Winemaking
The region around Trier was one of the driest places in Germany during the summer. However, below Herrenberg and Abtsberg, there are underground springs that push water from the forest into the mountains, which prevented drought stress in most areas. The Abtsberg is the oldest Maximin Grünhaus vineyard and is cooler than the Herrenberg. It is characterised by being on hard blue shale. It is aged mainly in old Moselfuder foudres, which give it a unique complexity and character.
Taste
Very fine, clear nose with a reductive tension typical of Mosel. Aromas of fruit, ripe summer apple, preserved lemon, and abundant notes of mint and menthol. There is also a green note reminiscent of lemongrass and bergamot, lending an ethereal freshness to the wine. The acidity is intensely vibrant but not sharp, integrating perfectly with the flavours of shale salt, citrus and herbs. The aftertaste is powerful, juicy and lingering, showing a crystalline clarity of flavour.
