Description
Lousas Parcela Camiño Novo is a wine made from 90-95% Mencía grapes and the rest from other varieties of the fruit. It is made in a 60-year-old vineyard located on steep slopes of slate soils, not very fertile, located between 400 and 600 metres above sea level, in the Canary Islands, Spain.
Winemaking
It is made in small open vats with 40% stems in some plots, and in others de-stemmed, after the grapes have been harvested and have reached optimum ripeness. After this, it is taken to a process of alcoholic fermentation with its own yeasts and a maceration of at least 18 days, adding to the process gentle manual movements.
In order to obtain a spontaneous malolactic fermentation, it is placed in neutral French oak barrels for a period of 11 months, avoiding chemical intervention with products or the addition of any sulphurous agent.
Taste
It is a smooth and slightly dry wine, with a predominant taste of red fruits, with hints of spices and aromatic herbs that denote its earthy character and the origin of the land where the grapes are harvested.
The Lousas wine has a bright red colour to the eye, with classic aromas of wild herbs. In the mouth it shows a lot of tannins and spices with a dry finish on the palate.
