The 2021 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is concentrated and fresh on the aromatic nose that is immediately present but also still reductive. Ripe stone fruit aromas intermingle with notes of crushed stones on a deep foundation of aromas from the soil and the fruit of old vines. On the palate, the 2021 is very fine but also intense, savory, saline and lush, leading to a long, intense and highly digestible finish with crunchy and cleansing slate features. Again, this is a fabulous Auslese from Prüm's iconic Sonnenuhr. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023.

Description
The wine Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is a classic sweet wine from one of Germany's most prestigious wine regions. This wine is a reflection of the tradition and the winemaking expertise of the Joh. Jos. Prüm.
Winemaking
Made exclusively from Riesling, this wine comes from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard, considered one of the most legendary and best in the world when it comes to Riesling. This vineyard is characterised by its slope of up to 70%, its south-south-west orientation and its deep grey schist soil. These conditions offer an exceptional terroir for the Riesling grape, resulting in wines of unparalleled quality. The winery Joh. Jos. Prüm has been able to interpret and make the most of the potential of this vineyard, with which it has maintained a deep connection generation after generation. The winemaking process is carried out with special care, from the manual selection of the grapes to the spontaneous fermentation and the careful handling in the cellar.
Taste
Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese has an elegant, polished bouquet with notes of peach, lychee, pineapple, pear, fresh bay leaf and preserved lemons. On the palate, it is refreshing with a pronounced acidity that balances perfectly with its sweetness. The minerality is prominent, bringing an energy and complexity that intertwines with the fruity notes. It is a wine of great structure, depth and length, which promises to evolve and improve over the years, reaching a unique harmony and expression.
