Description

Frank Cornelissen Susucaru Rosso, formerly known as Contadino, is the entry-level red wine of the Frank Cornelissen winery. This wine is a field blend composed mainly of Nerello Mascalese (85%) and other local varieties from all their vineyards, such as Nerello Capuccio, Allicante Boushet, Minnella and Uva Francesa. This blend seeks to express the essence of Etna, produced in a more traditional way, blending different plots, as well as different varieties to obtain a fragrant, elegant, fluid wine, with structure and personality.
The region of origin is the northern valley of Etna, and comes from vineyards such as Picciolo, Malpasso, Campo Re, Crasà, Piano Daini and Feudo di Mezzo.

Winemaking

The grapes are destemmed and lightly crushed on entry into the winery. Fermentation starts with a foot of vat with the use of indigenous yeasts and 30 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation and ageing of the wine is carried out in neutral epoxy tanks ranging from 2,500 litres to 7,000 litres. No fining is carried out and the wine is filtered before bottling with 3-micron cartridges. Depending on the quality of the grapes and the stability of the wine, sulphur values can vary from 15 to 50 mg/l.

Taste

Susucaru Rosso is more than just a "good" wine. Its taste is an amalgam of notes reminiscent of red fruits such as raspberry and strawberry, accompanied by earthy nuances such as sweet liquorice, black tea, sour cherry, tobacco and blood orange.
