Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Of the total of 20 hectares of vines in this Ruppertsberg top site, Bürklin holds 4.68 hectares. Located at the foot of the Mittelhaardt on red and white sandstone, the premier cru benefits from favorable microclimatic advantages. The 2021 Ruppertsberger Hoheburg P.C. is intense but also coolish and clear, with cold, gravelly notes intertwined with ripe yellow apple aromas. Full-bodied, intense and textured yet structured by vivacious acidity and phenolic grip, this is a young and untamed dry Riesling with an intense, saline and still biting finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork stopper. Tasted in November 2022.

Features

Description

Ruppertsberger Hoheburg, with a topography of 20 ha, owes its name to a destroyed castle belonging to the knights of Ruprechtsberg in the 14th century. The Dr. Bürklin-Wolf vineyard occupies a total of 4.68 ha of this land. Situated at the foot of the Mittelhaardt, this vineyard benefits from the favourable microclimatic advantages of the region. The shallow, white Buntsandstein ensures an optimal thermal balance for the vines.

Winemaking

As for winemaking and ageing, the selective manual harvest took place at the beginning of October, using small harvesting boxes. The plots on the HOHEBURG site produced a yield of 40 hl/ha. The wine has an alcohol content of 12.5% vol., an acidity of 8.2 g/l and a sugar residue of 2.1 g/l. In addition, it contains sulphites, as is common in many wines to ensure its preservation.

Taste

Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Ruppertsberger Hoheburg P.C. is characterised by its powerful fruit and creaminess, while impressing with its deep minerality and juiciness. Spontaneous fermentation and subsequent ageing in double wood barrels further enhance its flavour and aroma.
