Bürklin's 2021 Pechstein G.C. shows a deep, pure, intense and saline, very complex and elegant bouquet of concentrated tropical fruit aromas intertwined with flinty, iodine and citrus aromas. Pure, very intense and concentrated on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich, iodine-inflected and stimulatingly saline Pechstein with fine tannins and a long, dense, complex and tensioned finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Tasted at the domaine in November 2022.

Description
Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Pechstein G.C. is one of the winery's Grand Cru white wines made from the Riesling grape variety, known for its ability to accurately reflect the terroir from which it originates.
Winemaking
Pechstein, the plot from which this wine originates, covers 21 hectares, of which the Dr. Bürklin-Wolf winery owns 2.33 hectares. The name "Pechstein" is due to the high concentration of black volcanic basalt in the soil, which gives the wine an exceptional minerality. This mineral characteristic is largely due to an area located in an upper forest where basalt was mined until the late 1970s.
After manual harvesting in 20 kg crates, the grapes are transferred to the winery. The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The must ferments and is aged on the lees in oak vats.
Taste
Pechstein G.C. has a deep, pure and intense aromatic profile, with notes of tropical fruits intertwined with aromas of flint, iodine and citrus. On the palate, it is pure, very intense and concentrated, offering a rich saline texture complemented by fine tannins and a long, dense, taut finish. Its flavour is a combination of mineral energy and impressive fruit intensity, with a distinctive touch of basil.
