Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2020 Carbonnieux Blanc has turned out very well in bottle, exhibiting attractive aromas of lemon oil, pomelo, crisp stone fruit, mint and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a layered, concentrated mid-palate and a penetrating finish, it's a great success in the estate's Sauvginon-dominant style.

Features

Description

Château Carbonnieux Blanc is a legendary white wine, known for its clarity and purity, which was even introduced in the palace of the Sultan of Constantinople in the 18th century. This wine is produced in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, famous for its clay-limestone and Garonne gravel soils, ideal for making the best dry white wines in the Bordeaux region.

Winemaking

The production of Château Carbonnieux Blanc begins with a careful selection of grapes, followed by a slow and gentle pressing under inert gas. Fermentation and ageing take place in oak barrels and wooden vats, using 25% new oak. This process lasts 10 months and includes battonage of the lees, which contributes to the complexity and structure of the wine. The final blend consists of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon, with an alcohol content of 13%.

Taste

Château Carbonnieux Blanc stands out for its transparent yellow colour and a very pure first aroma, exhaling notes of grapefruit and lime blossom. On the nose, aromas of lemony citrus develop. On the palate, the attack is lively and fresh, evolving towards an unctuous texture thanks to the Semillon aged on lees. The finish is fresh, dense and of remarkable length, with a citrus aftertaste and a delicate floral and fruity balance. This wine is a faithful representative of the excellent vintages of Bordeaux white wines.
