My favourite last year repeats now with the 2013 Zerberos del Tiemblo Los Chorrancos, a wine with a different profile to most of the others produced at this address. El Tiemblo, the village in the province of Ávila where this plot of vines planted in 1936, is one of the few places in the Gredos Mountains where you find slate. As most of the ancient vineyards, there is a field blend, mostly Garnacha Tinta, but also some Garnacha Tintorera, Garnacha Gris, Morenillo (Rufete) and even Villanueva (a white variety). Around 15% of the clusters are left whole while the rest of the grapes are destemmed and crushed. The fermentation lasted some 20 days and there was a post-fermentative maceration of 75 days, after which the wine was transferred to one 500- and one 600-liter barrel where it matured for one year before is was sulfured and bottled. The nose is floral and fresh, with perfectly ripened red fruit and something earthy, aromatic and subtle, quite complex for its young age. The palate is medium-bodied with fantastic balance and a lively acidity that gives it freshness and length. I find this irresistible. 1,450 bottles produced and filled in May 2015.
