Buy Wine from Cellers Augustus Forum
Cellers Augustus Forum, going back to the times of the Roman Empire times… Today, Augustus Forum is a winery that was founded on the 80's but, since Roman Empire it was located just in the Via Augusta path, directly connected with Rome and other mediterranean cities, that's why the winery is called like that and why its wines pay tribute to the roman road.
Located in Vendrell county, in Baix Penedés, their wines are produced under the Penedés appellation. However, Penedés region is much wider and Augustus Forum is close to Tarragona province, in the South side. Climate is pure mediterranean with marine influences as vines are planted only three kilometres away from the sea and enjoy its breezes; the gentle winds cause sharp differences between day and night temperatures, which is perfect for a good grape ripening, at the same time western airs stimulate grape's good health in front of diseases such as downy and powdery mildew or noble rot.
Cellers Augustus Forum has 10 vineyard hectares on calcareous soils, not deep, rich in gravel (crashed rocks) with moderate rainfall. The varieties better suited to this land are Chardonnay, Xarel.lo, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, all of them trained with the cordon royat system.
In 1989, Augustus Forum launched its first vintage to the market but, how are these wines? Augustus Xarel.lo might seem shy at the beginning but after a while in glass, mineral perfumes and wet chalk scents are abundant. Augustus Chardonnay is a Chardonnay wine where citric and smoke notes prevail and that leaves unctuous sensations in the mouth due to its cask ageing. Augustus Rosé is a modern style rosé wine, savoury and delectable with herbal and spicy notes. Augustus Cabernet Franc is an overruling wine, with strong personality and marked tannins, let's have some violet juice? Augustus Merlot-Syrah is a wine for daring palates and Augustus Trajanus Reserva the Emperor's wine!
